May is Celiac Awareness Month

Many events will take place in May as Celiac Awareness Month is celebrated around the world. In the US, the American Celiac Disease Alliance celebrates the introduction of legislation to raise greater awareness about the disease, a national restaurant awareness campaign sponsored by the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) is launched, and many walks, meetings, workshops and campaigns will take place throughout the month with the purpose of raising awareness.
In the UK, the Free for Tea? campaign aims to mobilise people to hold events that raise awareness and get people talking about coeliac disease. In New Zealand, the campaign will run from 23 – 29 May with the theme ‘Are you 1 in 100?’. In South America Argentineans and Brazilians urge the approval of a laws that consider the diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease in their national health programs, and in Europe there is special reason for celebration, as the European Union approves new food labeling and composition rules aimed at helping people who are intolerant to gluten.
May is also Food Allergy Awareness Month , and Digestive Diseases awareness month in many countries. In Canada, Anaphylaxis Canada has launched a national Food Allergy Awareness Week . In the USA, Allergy Awareness Week (FAAW) will take place in May 10-16.
